Luke Bryan hits back at criticism over his comments about Beyoncé’s CMAs snub

Country legend Luke Bryan has responded to criticism over his negative remarks about Beyoncé’s new country album Cowboy Carter being snubbed by the Country Music Association Awards (CMAs)despite it topping Billboard’s Top Country Albums this year.
While discussing the album, which failed to receive a single nomination by the awards, he said he “loved” that the superstar made a country album, but said she could have made more appearances at country music events while promoting it.The American Idol judge told SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live: “Like Beyoncé can do exactly what she wants to.

“She’s probably the biggest star in music. But come to an award show and high-five us and have fun and get in the family too.
“Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album. Nobody’s mad about it. But where things get a little tricky … if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.”

After his comments were criticized by many social media users, Bryan clarified his remarks in a post on X, saying his intentins were not “negative.”
He also said he wanted to stop a “false narrative”, adding: “I respect Beyonce and I love how loyal her fans are. I spend a lot of time supporting other artists. I want everyone to win. Love yall.”
Beyonce also failed to pick up any gongs at People’s Choice Country Awards last week depite racking up 12 nominations.
Other country stars have defended the CMA’s Beyoncé’s snub including Jolene hitmaker Dolly Parton.
Last month, Parton who has a feature on Cowboy Carter, defended the awards voting committee and their decision to leave Beyoncé out.
The 78-year-old Jolene singer said in an interview with Variety: “There’s so many wonderful country artists that … they probably thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that.”

“But it was a wonderful album. She can be very, very proud of, and I think everybody in country music welcomed her and thought that, that was good.
“So I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out, like doing that on purpose. I think it was just more of what the country charts and the country artists were doing, that do that all the time, not just a specialty album.”
Beyoncés’ album was released in March and featured 27 tracks, some of which saw her collaborate with a host of A-list musicians.
The album taking No. 1 spot in Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, made Beyoncé, 43, the first Black woman to top the list.
The singer, 43, released two singles from her country-inspired album, 16 Carriages and Texas Hold ‘Em.
When she was promoting the album earlier this year, she said it was “five years in the making” and it was inspired by an experience that she had years ago in which she did not “feel welcomed”.
